Room 404(https://room404.gamestrategists.com)

发布者是独立开发者 alphaBETA DEV(GameStrategists),一个人,不是公司。

条款本身有疑问,写信到 contact@gamestrategists.com;涉及个人信息的走 privacy@gamestrategists.com,以隐私政策那一份为准。

Terms of Service

Room 404 (https://room404.gamestrategists.com)

What these terms actually cover

This subdomain holds one thing: the browser version of Room 404 — six acts, ten puzzles, eighteen clues, four endings, and ten fictional sites you can click through layer by layer. It is published by alphaBETA DEV (GameStrategists), one person, not a company.

Two neighbouring things are outside these terms. The pages on the main site, gamestrategists.com — the game profile, the walkthroughs, the changelog — carry their own terms; where the two disagree, this page wins for the site you are actually playing. And there is a Windows package on the Microsoft Store that runs offline: that copy is distributed through the store, so installing, refunds and content ratings follow the store’s own process. The two versions are not always in step, so treat the one in front of you as the one that is true.

Free, ad-funded, and how that balances

Nothing here costs money: no sign-up, no purchases, no paid chapter, no payment method to connect. Because no money comes in, there is nothing to refund — a dispute of the kind “was that ending worth it” has nothing here for anyone to act on.

Domain and hosting do cost something, and the plan is to cover that with revenue from the Google AdSense script the pages load. Ad slots are filled by third-party ad networks; we see what they hand back and we do not choose which ad is served. How ads pick you, and how to switch personalised advertising off, is written in the privacy policy — that is the document in charge of it.

Before you start

This is a horror-mystery game. The screen you pass through before the game itself already states it plainly: it carries horror, thriller and psychological pressure, and may include sudden sounds, screen flicker and jump cuts; people with photosensitive epilepsy, or anyone who does not want that atmosphere right now, should not play, and you can close the page at any moment. That notice and the ambience switch live in the game, not here.

The game is not aimed at children under thirteen. It never asks a player of any age for a name, an ID or contact details, so there is no “child account” for anyone to administer.

Things this site does not have

Several ordinary clauses have nothing to apply to: there is no account, so no one can be banned, there is nothing to appeal, and there is no “we may terminate your service” anyone could exercise; there are no forms, comments, uploads or an interface for other programs, so nothing you send is held anywhere — the line you type into the in-game notepad stays in your own browser. The only action available against anything is to edit a page or take an address down.

Our reach over you is small, and equally, only you can touch your own progress: clearing site data for this domain in your browser destroys the save and nobody can restore it. The privacy policy lists the exact storage keys and the three ways to erase them.

What you may do, and what to ask first

  • Play it, take your own screenshots, write about how it felt — none of that needs permission.
  • Republishing the story text, the answer tables or the site’s images somewhere else; distributing modified versions; or stripping the source and passing it off as yours: ask for written permission first. Write to contact@gamestrategists.com and say what you want to use it for and how you will credit it.
  • Do not attack or disrupt the site, or try to reach past the way it is meant to be read. It serves static pages and has no back office to break into; the rule stands anyway.
  • Crawlers: this subdomain’s robots.txt allows User-agent: * and additionally names the search and AI crawlers it permits (Google-Extended, GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and others). That is so people can find the game and summaries can quote it — it is not permission to pull the text out in bulk and rebuild a site elsewhere, which is still the case above and still needs a question first.

Offered “as is”

This is a project maintained in spare time: there is no service-level promise, no guarantee it is always reachable, and no guarantee that a puzzle’s structure never changes. Fixing a bug, reordering an act or correcting what an answer field accepts can make an old walkthrough stop matching the live game.

Two things are promised instead: changes leave a record, and mistakes are corrected openly rather than quietly. Every change to Room 404 is filed in the main site’s changelog, each entry carrying its own date, newest first — this page deliberately does not copy that count here, and does not name whichever entries happen to sit at the top, because the number moves every time an entry is filed, and a figure pinned to a legal page is false the next morning. When the body of this page genuinely changes, the date above moves with it — it is read from the last recorded change to this page, not typed in by hand.

No liability is accepted for any direct or indirect loss arising from use of this site; content here is for entertainment and reference, not professional advice. The “government portal”, “daily newspaper”, “forum” and “rental listings” inside the game are invented pages. Their names and layouts imitate real institutions so that a player has to make choices in an interface that feels ordinary; they represent no real organisation, person or event.

How these terms change, and how to reach me

The terms change in one way only: this page is updated and the date above is replaced. Nothing on this page asks you to click anything, and nothing in your browser records whether you have read it — but the screen in front of the game does have a control: the notice ends with a checkbox reading “I have read the notice above and consent to enter this fictional experience”, the “Enter the game” button stays disabled until it is ticked, and ticking it then entering leaves one key in your browser, arg-intro-room404, which only decides whether that notice appears again (the key is named in the privacy policy). That tick is an acknowledgement that the fiction is fiction; it is not an e-signature on these terms, and the terms do not depend on it. So “continued use means you accept the updated terms” has to be taken literally — keep using the site and we take that as acceptance; if you do not accept it, close the page. Nothing in the game breaks if you do.

Questions about the terms go to contact@gamestrategists.com; anything about personal data goes to privacy@gamestrategists.com and is governed by the privacy policy. The reply time is stated once, on the contact page, so this page does not repeat a second number for the same promise.
